Retreat Review:

When it comes to marriage intensives, Relationship Rescue Academy shines in every category, whether you are on the brink of divorce, separated or lacking intimacy. For a life changing experience, look no further than this private retreat.

Originally started in the Midwest, Relationship Rescue Academy now operates marriage intensives in both Kokomo, Indiana, and Orange County, California.

No other marriage counseling intensive has more satisfied customers than that of Relationship Rescue Academy. They are our top choice by a landslide.

Relationship Rescue Academy is dedicated to helping couples heal, reconnect, and rebuild marriages in a unique and effective approach.

They offer three different intensives for you to choose from when you are trying to decide what is best for your specific needs:

(2) day intensive
(3) day intensive
(4) day intensive
(5) day intensive

You choose the amount of time with the help of a trained counselor who will speak with you for your initial interview to decide two things.

The first thing you will decide together is whether or not the program can work for you and your spouse. Not all programs are created equal, and Relationship Rescue Academy wants to make sure they are giving you the very best that suits your need, not theirs.

Secondly, you will decide on the amount of time both you and your in-take counselor feel you need to best resolve all of your current issues within your marriage.

Once this has been decided, you will go away together for your specified time for a private one-on-one counseling experience with a licensed, master level counselor. There is no group work. There are no group sessions.

This is a time for you and your spouse to deal solely with each other and your counselor. It is a time of discovery and learning.

Your counselor at Relationship Rescue Academy will lead you through exercises that will help you uncover barriers you didn’t know even existed in order to heal old wounds and reestablish a more healthy relationship for your future.

Marriage Quest is a three-day personalized marriage intensive retreat founded by Israel Helfand, PhD, MS, LMFT, CST and his wife, Cathie Helfand, MS, MFT.

Following that discussion, there will be a time of action where the two work through exercises that will allow you to begin to deal with some of the underlying problems.

Day Two is the most intensive day of therapy. It is when the most heated of all issues are uncovered and dealt with between the to of you.

#3 Healing Couples Retreat

Healing Couples Retreat Details:

Sonoma County, CA

  • $8850 for a 3-day retreat
  • *Attendees are responsible for their own travel, lodging and meals.

Retreat Review:

Dr. John Grey offers you and your spouse two different options when you decide to attend his Healing Couples Retreats.

You may opt for a private one-on-one retreat with Dr. Grey himself, or you may choose to take part in a group setting with other couples.

No matter which one you choose, Dr. Grey will be with you. But the degree to which he is with you varies a great deal. In the Private One-on-One Retreat, you and your spouse get the benefit of having Dr. Grey all to yourself.

There is no sharing with other couples so you can get right into the issues that brought you to him without having to listen to other couples share or any of the other usual things that go on in group settings.

The private retreat is about you and your spouse working through your issues solely focused on each other and the things you learn from Dr. Grey as he helps you uncover barriers that are hindering your marriage and ways to overcome them for the future.

There is a two, three, four and five day option depending on how long you feel you and your spouse need to work on your specific dilemma. The four day option is recommended, especially if you are dealing with problems as significant as past affairs, traumas or other serious issues. But you, along with the staff at Healing Couples Retreat will determine that amount of time based on what you feel you need.

In the group retreat, you and your partner, along with eight other couples will work with Dr. Grey and a team of professional counselors on learning new tools you need in dealing with each other and your marriage.

There is individualized attention in the group retreat as well, but not to the extent that you have when it is just you and your partner. In the group setting, you will listen to Dr. Grey teach about new concepts and talk about different relationship issues, then have break-out sessions where you and your partner will work one-on-one with a counselor for personalized training of those specific skills.

Dr. Grey also may use a couple for an example in front of the others, but it is voluntary and not mandatory that you participate. What makes Dr. Grey different? His cutting-edge scientific approach to relationships.

He is so knowledgeable about relationships that he even trains other therapists to go out and work with couples in their own practices. No matter which option you choose, Healing Couples Retreats with Dr. John Grey has something for you that will greatly benefit you and your spouse.

#11 Cornerstone Marriage Ministries

  • Indianapolis, IN
  • Houston, TX
  • Dallas, TX

Retreat Review:

“A New Beginning Marriage Intensive”, a three-day and two-night weekend focusing on your marriage. They have a proven 86 percent recovery rate among participants.

You can expect to get six months of counseling done in one weekend. Traditional counseling can be time consuming, sporadic at times, and even slow in process. Taking a break and going away together to work on your marriage is the smart choice to avoid all of these unnecessary obstacles.

The retreat is a Christian focused marriage intensive weekend that includes eight experiential or “hands-on” sessions, coaching and counseling support, project workbooks, and materials for both you and your spouse. Your meals and lodging are included in the price. The retreat begins at 7 p.m. on Friday evening and ends at 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

You can expect counselors here to use a three-phase approach while you are there to work closely with you and your spouse toward the restoration of your issues you may have with one another.

Counselors use biblical-based therapeutic techniques and treatments to uncover the behaviors, attitudes and patterns that have created a barrier to the growth of your relationship. Once these have been revealed, counselors teach exercises and new ways of dealing with them so that your marriage can grow and not fall apart.

After you have dealt with the hurts of the past and healed them, counselors will guide you step-by-step into new behaviors that will allow you to work together and rebuild communication, closeness, basic friendship with one another, and connection. There is an after-program designed to continue your work long after you have left the retreat that will reinforce skills learned over the weekend.

Issues you can expect to deal with are:

– Infidelity- Broken Trust- Conflict- Pending Divorce- Anger Outbursts- Disaffection- Addiction- Control Issues- Emotional affairs- Emotional neglect- Communication – Sexual Intimacy

This retreat is not a group therapy format. It is simply based on you and your partner with your counselor working through your own issues. No one is asked to share or is expected to share with anyone over the weekend except for, or course, their counselor and their spouse.

#12 Focus on The Family

  • Branson, MO
  • Rome, GA

Retreat Review:

Hope Restored is an all-inclusive intensive with the duration of your choice. You can choose from a 3-day, 4-day, or 5-day intensive. Scholarships are available at the Branson, MO location only.

You can receive a 4-day all-inclusive at the Rome, GA location. For the 3-day, 4-day, and 5-day intensives, you must visit the Branson, MO location. The difference in each intensive is, of course, the time, but also the focus. During the 3-day intensive there is more flexibility because it is solely based on you and your spouse. It is not group based. Therefore, you have more time to figure our where your focus for each day needs to be with your counselor.

The 4-day all inclusive is 32 hours of caring and committed counseling with dedicated clinicians who are there to help you figure out your needs and to teach you strategies to overcome any obstacle that might come into your marriage. It is a group counseling experience.

The 5-day all-inclusive intensive is the most focused of all. There is both individual and joint counseling with a male and female therapy team. Because it is a longer format, it allows for more flexibility in scheduling for your specific needs and working with your therapist on the specific direction for each session.

One of the best things about Hope Restored is that it is lecture, a seminar or even a retreat. It is an individualized plan for you and your spouse without any cookie-cutter planning in advance or canned presentations.

You receive a unique, holistic and scriptural-based approach to counseling that takes the heart, the mind and the faith of the couple into consideration. Two years after attendance, 86 percent of couples who attend are still together.

There is an aftercare program that allows you to continue to stay in contact with a counselor and work on any remaining issues you may have from time to time.
